In 1994, Stephen brewed his first beer while he was living in Vernon, B.C. with his wife Dawn.
From Vernon, BC
Over the years, Stephen continued to ferment a variety of beers and wines, moving back to NB throughout the process. He was always very interested in Belgian style beers and chokecherry wine; especially when he could pick his own chokecherries in Fredericton, N.B.
The Grimross Story
In 2012, Stephen and Dawn officially began the Grimross journey.
When Stephen and Dawn were looking for a name, local and meaningful was important and when they came across Grimross Island something clicked for them. In his earlier years, Stephen would spend a lot of his time on the island with friends and family. The name “Grimross” had personal meaning, historical meaning, it was local and it was catchy.
OUT THE DOOR
On July 1st of 2013, Grimross released its first ever commercial beer, Cheval D’or; a Belgian inspired farmhouse saison. Stephens interest in Belgian style beer strongly influenced and inspired this beer and was the reason it was the first beer available to the public.
Stephen left his job to become fully invested into Grimross and growing the business.
After a lot of hard work and sacrifices made by Stephen, Dawn and their family, Grimross officially opened the doors to the brewery and taproom on Bishop Drive on December 23, 2014.
On December 23, 2017, our 3rd birthday, Grimross had a Grand Re-Opening/Expansion to celebrate our customers, our staff and our growth.
During the year 2018, Grimross was very proud to win our first national level brewing awards.
Grimross was created by a family and will always want to remain as a family business. A good portion of Grimross’s employees have been nieces, nephews, daughters and more to Stephen and Dawn. As well as those who are not blood related are still considered family because the entire Grimross team is a family.
